Little Island at Pier 55 is an artificial island park adjoining Hudson River Park in the Meatpacking District and Chelsea neighborhoods of Manhattan.
Little Island covers 2.4 acres in 132 pot-shaped structures suspended above the water, which stand on 280 concrete pilings extending into the riverbed. The park has lawns, paths, and plants, a small stage, 3 concession stands and a 687-seat amphitheater.
The construction visible around the park indicates more is coming. I must read some more about the environmental impact of an artificial island!
