If this works, most of the credit goes to @janmaki who once again suggested the crop... if it bombs, it's of course entirely my bad!
what started as a fairly typical cityscape ended up feeling apocalyptic, hence the title (and of course it fits in so nicely for the movie challenge ;p)
ps - this looks MUCH better largified on the black background - if you have the time and inclination...
Thanks everyone for all your wonderful comments and the favs on my recent photos... i'm feeling woefully inept at properly conveying how much i appreciate you all... but please know that I really really do!
If you hold this upside down it looks like a reflection in a puddle with the clouds part of the puddle water. I really like it upside down best. But hey that is just me. I like the b&w.
I say if you are going to give credit to @janmaki if it works then @janmaki should get the same if it doesn't. Either way you took the advice and ran with it. Good for you and YOU get all the credit for making the effort. :-)
@sailingmusic ok... just tried it... it doesn't look like a reflection to me, but it does look totally wild and rather dizzying! if i post i will have to call it vertigo ;p
@dmortega tx Dorrena... in fairness to Jani, he just asked what i thought of that kind of crop... and i believe in free will ;)
An interesting take… my eyes so want to scan downwards because they know something is missing. It's like you cropped the body out and left the head. Not saying it doesn't work! I would so like to see a UFO in the picture :)
Interesting crop. I think it feels a little creepy because the buildings appear to be floating, or maybe it's just because you can't see what's going on below. I like it!
I'd prefer a wider feel though (wide crop or why not do a panorama!).... With a killer sky and building silhouettes this would be pretty awesome I think.
Tried it upside down .... kept on scrolling the wrong way ...lol - Looks good cropped, but at first l thought l didn't have the whole shot on the page ,,,l like the different take on it!!
this shot seems perfect to go along with your movie title. did you use a certain B&W filter or just straight B&W? the color of gray for the sky, for me is very important to the feel of this shot.
@paulaag Hi Paula... tx for the comment... i used the infrared preset on PSE to convert to b&w... and i drama'd up the sky by darkening it using the soft light adjustment layer... (i'm prolly not explaining that right, it's like dodging or burning - can never recall which is which - only using "soft light" instead of "overlay")
@janmaki@monika64 tx :) i don't know why i didn't end up doing a panorama type crop... i did think about it trying it - and then somehow got onto something else and forgot...
@northy , i haven't used my PSE enough to know exactly what you mean, but I get the general idea. I mostly use Aperture and there are different B&W filters. I thought you had done more to this than simply converted to B&W. Nicely done!
@paulaag i really don't know PSE that well... some weeks ago i started a discussion thread asking for books to help and someone suggested scott kelby and matt kloskowsi's "the photoshop elements 10 book for digital photographers"... it's wonderful! :)
@northy , oh, thanks for the tip! i am going to go write those names down right now. i bought PSE for Dummies and I do not find it to be helpful at all.
@dmortega tx Dorrena... in fairness to Jani, he just asked what i thought of that kind of crop... and i believe in free will ;)
PS Very cool shot
