The idea being to get "pushed" out of one's comfort zones and try something different photography-wise... I was paired up with @carmel... the challenge I was given was to find and photograph something with bright, bold colours; something that could belong to a particular ethnic tradition that has a bit of a design to it.
At a loss for where to find something apropos (that I could get to between work and kids), I headed off to the local museum after work today and found the above reconstruction of a Palace Hall in the imperial style of the Qing dynasty (China). I have no idea if this is the kind of thing contemplated, and I am really struggling with just about everything about this image. I had to shoot inside in rotten light, at a difficult (for me) angle. There are a gazillion lines, but none line up and it's a thing that it would never occur to me to photograph.
Give it to me straight folks - all constructive criticism welcome!
(you may be amused to know that for "fun", I played around with converting it to b&w ;p)
One needed to open this thumbnail to see what the pic was. After your explaination, I think you did a great job with your challenge. Bold and adventurous.
I think this is something really different from you, so you have succeeded in the challenge but I still really like it.
Love the vibrant colours and the crop!
Actually a hilarious push for you- and I know what you mean about working outside your comfort zone. This is an amazing photo with wonderful lines. Well done!
Beautifully done! There's no sign of difficulty in the way this came out, the lighting is great and the angle makes it quite intriguing, as it isn't immediately obvious what it is. It's also fairly close to the sort of thing I had in mind. I was thinking museums, the Chinese quarter of the city (if you had one), folk art, fabrics, pottery, jewellery, tourist souvenirs, something in a shop window - so challenge pretty definitely met if not exceeded!
Meanwhile, I'm hoping that my day off tomorrow will bring the opportunity I'm looking for to fulfil your challenge.
I think you have done a great job, I like the lead-off lines on two sides of the image. My eyes kept slipping off the page, which sounds odd, but I liked it.... I had to jump back into the image to explore something new. Lovely lovely lovely and on top of that, I know all too well the juggles that you are having to do and I take my hat off to you :)
Great get pushed shot - you did a great job...I still have to do mine yet, struggling for time...typically mine is water refrection...just as the rain has all gone away!!
Like someone else had said, I would have never guessed that to be your photo. That shows that you have truly found your style (I'm still looking for mine!) and also that you met your challenge.
Well done for stepping outside your comfort zone and doing so well with it! Love your title and commentary, obviously you were pushed this week and thats what its all about right?!
I'm loving the get pushed challenge and cant wait for the next challenge. I see from your thumbnails that you have gone back to your comfort zone...street photography in b&w. haha
I really dont like my get pushed photo.
@monika64 yeah... i know... in my defence, my husband is away on business, work is crazy and i've been feeling under the weather since wednesday night... so yeah... not up to being particularly adventurous...
agree with all the comments. . .you met the challenge beautifully. I wish that I had been brave enough to volunteer for the "get pushed" challenge. . .still working at building confidence. :-)
Love the vibrant colours and the crop!
Meanwhile, I'm hoping that my day off tomorrow will bring the opportunity I'm looking for to fulfil your challenge.
