For the shade and light theme... and because today i decided to put some effort into seeing whether i could shoot straight lines... turns out that i can't... ;p
@janim - so this one has a reflection with the added bonus that it's a bike (and the downside that he isn't quite clear of the barrier thing on the left)... on the one hand, i kind of wish the second figure wasn't there... on the other hand, i quite like the neatness of him :)
Your remarks make me laugh. You find a way to make it all interesting! I feel like I'm holding my camera pretty darn crooked when I am trying to square up a straight horizon. I don't understand why that is. But I'm also glad for the leveler gadget in lightroom.
@rockinrobyn tx :) actually, i tried an interesting experiment today... i stood at the end of a long long long bench - square on to it, and pointed my camera so that i thought it was completely straight... you know, as if i were doing a perfectly symmetrical vanishing point shot on train tracks... when i went to focus, however, it turns out that the mid focus point was hugely on the left... HUGELY... so obviously what i am thinking is straight on, isn't!
Does your monitor have lines?? I have my grid lines visible to help me keep the camera straight. I generally have to use the straighten tool though!! Great shot. I love the light/ shadows and the wonderful framing.
@kwind tx! yeah... i think i can get the lines to show on the LED screen... i don't use live view (is that what it's called?) much, altho i will when using the tripod and doing landscapes in an ATTEMPT to get my lines straight... but shots like the above? i always use the viewfinder... i'll have to think about that tho
Hahahhaha seriously loving your tags!!! :) This is an awesome shot! :) I love the crazy kid on the bike :) Outstanding reflections and what an awesome entry for the competition :)
oh yes, I like this a lot. Maybe the crop could be a bit tighter, a slice off from the top & from the right ? And don't get me started on getting shots straight.... being an OCD freak on straightness, it annoys me to no end how crooked my shots are unless I specifically make sure everything is straight. Obviously there's no time for that when thinking about decisive moment.
Batsh!t brilliant tags! - Awesome play of light and shadow AND a cool reflection - I like the balance of both guys & there is a reason for straighten tools - I think it's photographers!
@janim hmmm... you could be right about the crop... i can't get the original image out of my head, and the crop seems wrong to me based on that... but yeah... when i hold paper up against the edges to test it, i think you may have a point! tx!
Don't they know that if you get both wheels on ice your done for?! I prefer the mood of the other one but you've done a great job on the exposure here.
Really love this shot, Northy! Perfect for the challenge!
