red coat

@mizhayz, my get pushed partner for this week, challenged me to shoot something in colour... and it occurred to me that it might be interesting to see whether it would be possible to do a "creeping dark" shot in colour...

this was processed in lightroom... i am still trying to get the hang of using the sliders for point (as opposed to global) fixes... I think there is too much blue, but couldn't figure out how to reduce it in some parts but not others... on the flip side, those funky yellow, green and blue tones around the edges just sorta happened... anyhoo, i am not entirely unhappy with this and given the right conditions, i might try something like it again... lemme know what ya'all think!
@mizhayz - colour :) not the type of urban / street shot i would normally do - so thanks for the push! i might try another one of these later in the week if i have time...

Great capture

Love it... great red coat...

great colors! The bit of green and yellow on the sides balance everything so perfectly.

I like the creepy and the colors..

Its a bit like there is bluish light above the steps which is good!

I've done this shot so many times here in NYC. Something in it always intrigues me. Great job!

Nice it really stands out

Cool pop of red :)

Love the pop of red at the top, and how the color comes to life from the bottom up.
March 6th, 2013
ah ok, now I get the colour ;)
March 6th, 2013
I like the way this got framed by the black walls... makes the red coat pop all the more.

I think the dark with the splash of red works well.

I like the creeping dark, great that there is some colour and light in the walls and stairs. Great perspective

I feel like the big bad wolf...

Yep, red riding is in da hood again! I quite like it actually northy, I am now getting more curious by the minute about how your others might look in colour. If this is any indicator, pretty darn well I'd say!

@northy I really like this.. it's dark, and a bit mysterious then you have that pop of color.. You did good Mz. Northy.. real good :-)

I really like the colors that happened here!

Great pop of Red. The frame of the black works nicely here with the detail in the lighted parts. I find that it is often easiest to remove a blue cast with a custom white balance adjustment, just a few degrees to the right.

I love that its color but, with a very tight palette. It gives it that northy point of view. I like it very much, good push...

I think you were very successful! The blue kind of adds to the creepy feeling.
March 6th, 2013
what a great pop of red! cool! :)
March 6th, 2013
Your processing really translated well. This is something intense about it. Well done.
March 6th, 2013
I like it - wondering if you'd got a lower POV whether you'd get a real sense of coming up from the dark? I love the light and shadows in this though
March 6th, 2013
Love the red!
I like the blue too. :)
March 6th, 2013
Great perspective.
March 6th, 2013
I like it and the blue tones too which contrast well against the pop of red.
March 6th, 2013
Awesome blue tones and pop of red, really like this a lot. I might have been inclined to crop off some of the bottom though, just before where the blue starts.
March 6th, 2013
@jase_h ok - i think i see that... tx!
March 7th, 2013
@frankhymus oh goodness... of course you are right and i should have known that! tx!
March 7th, 2013
Really like this - super cool!
March 7th, 2013
Very cool shot! I love all the color and the blue adds a fun feel! :) Super job on this challenge!
March 7th, 2013
I love this! Great composition! The blue and red work so well! Awesome!
March 7th, 2013
To reduce the blue in a certain portion, you could use a graduated filter or spot filter and desaturate. I don't think you can reduce individual colours in a filter but a little bit of desaturation may get the effect you are after.

Great colours! The red coat leads the eye right into the photo.
March 8th, 2013
Very very lovely shot! I love the colours :) FAV

March 10th, 2013
