the dream of popularity and acceptance... or community... or something ;p
this didn't quite turn out as i'd planned, and it ended up being loads more difficult than i expected... the angles and focus stumped me and it took me 5 tries to get a comp that more or less worked...
this is two images layered in photoshop... one image with just the queen, and one with the queen and friends... layered one on top of the other and then used the brush to bring back the friends, but only in the mirror...
the original plan called for replacing the mirror frame with something more ornate from a photo frame, but being as it's almost midnight, i decided to go with the KISS principle and not complicate things further ;p
thank you so much for all the wonderful feedback on my "cold" shot from yesterday... i had been quite happy with this image, but didn't quite expect everyone else to see it in such a positive light :)
@nanderson tx Nancy... i generally get the idea and then let it evolve over a few days... mostly i know that these set up shots are never as easy as i think they will be so i have to wait until i have time to do them... and even then - here it is after midnight and i only just posted the durned thing!
Your shots make me move closer and closer to getting photoshop. I love the images you can create with it. The layering especially seems to be something I'd enjoy having as an option. This shot is fantastic. Instant Fav.
@fueast tx Alison... your point about looking back on friends lost is interesting... one thing i worried about with this shot was whether it was clear that this was a mirror and not a portrait (if you know what i mean)... oh well - i will no doubt play with this concept again sometime in the future and maybe do a more effective job of it :)
I can see why you wanted to replace the frame with something more ornate, it would have given a more "fantasy" type of feel, but I think it works very well just as it is. Most favalicious indeed :)
Wonderful shot Northy. I am interested in buying a 17-55m 2.8 how do you find this lens Northy? Is it your main lens on you camera ie your go to lens? I have been reading the reviews and it sounds awesome. I was thinking of the 24-105usm L but it would not do the AP-s sensor justice due to the crop factor and would not be wide enough for me. I know the 17-55m is tack sharp and is compared to L glass. Do you find you have to switch lenses for a better zoom range with other lenses. The lens I am using at the moment is 17-85m usm and now it's throwing up lens errors :( Simon
@simon0128 tx Simon... i totally love that lens... it is my "go to" lens for the canon for sure... i also have the 17-85 and it's a great walk around lens, but mostly for walking around i use my sony nex7...
the 17-55 is used for all set up shots (unless i need the macro or wide angle), and most of the shots i take on planned photo outings...
i haven't tried this out yet, but i am thinking that in low light the 17-55 would be a better choice than a zoom given the speed (f/2.8)... e.g.: at the hockey arena where my kids play, i think i could get better quality using f/2.8 and lower iso and then crop in, then i would using my lame 50-250mm telephoto...
one thing to know about the 17-55 is that it is HUGE and heavy... bigger and heavier than my L-macro lens... i am used to it and it doesn't bother me, but it is quite noticeably less weildly than the 17-85
