we were made for this! by northy

we were made for this!

women's hockey... Canada vs US... going for gold :D

ok - the fact that we won may be the only redeeming feature of this image...

for get pushed this week, Laurie (@luvmynynix) challenged me to tilt-shift photography... i have never tried it before and all i can say is that i suck at it big time!

first challenge - can't find a decent scene... i might just possibly be able to get myself to an overpass this week to catch a train to tilt-shift, but it's iffy due to kid sports commitments...

second challenge - tilt shift processing... i have photoshop for heavens sake, which has tilt shift built in... you'd think i could figure it out... nope - not a chance... after messing around with a variety of different bits of software and tools, i ended up copying the original image, adding gaussian blur, and then masking out around the big screen... totally lame... Sorry Laurie!
Cool effect here.

@luvmynynix - i think this one defeated me... i know it was supposed to be outdoors and landscape, but no chance to get somewhere high enough for an outdoors shot this week so i had to take the liberty of shooting indoors :)

Silver, that's OK, we'll take that. I just wish they were showing it on TV. We have DVRed all of the Olympics on NBC and they didn't show the men's big game between U.S. and Russia. Hoping they at least show the last two games.

An interesting shot - I can't watch hockey as it's too rough! There is a tilt shift option in both befunky and ribbet!

This has worked fantastically well. Nice work.

Oh my goodness! You are waaaay too hard on yourself! This is great! The people next to the screen totally look like they are from a miniature set! Love this! Can't wait to give it a shot myself!

I really like it, the effect has worked in my humble opinion! Btw a tutorial I have seen shows exactly what you described you did.

I agree with those who think you did an amazing job on this processing!

Congratulations on the win. two inches to the right and that empty net shot hits nothing but net and the US wins. That's the way the puck bounces I guess.

to my limited knowledge of anything photographic, this is tilt-shift. just so you know, i was made to sit and watch the game tonight. i don't know why when it's already over and done with, canada already won, so why i had to watch it was beyond me. on a more positive note, i cut out a lot of grocery coupons. :-)

@northy - the best instructions I've seen are the ones @asrai gave when he did his amazing shots (probably before you started here) http://365project.org/asrai/365/2011-07-29 http://365project.org/asrai/365/2011-08-14
He explains on the first shot how to do it.

Well heck, I like it. Sorry about the digital shenanigans - they can be a real pain, can't they? Anywho, congrats on the win. But please tell the people who made that sign to work on their comma negligence. It's killing me.

And what an awesome game it was too! :)

I hope you beat the Swedes in the final, they become so full of themselves when they win ;-)
