this week, for "get pushed" Brigette (@brigette) challenged me to shoot something with the theme "beauty"... this is not a concept i am comfortable with... it's so very subjective, and although it occurs to me that i use the adjective "beautiful" quite frequently, the fact remains, that i really don't have a defined concept of "beauty" in my head... and i can guarantee you that whatever i do have in my head probably bears little resemblance to what the average person thinks of when they hear the word "beauty"...
i would have loved to do something channelling the look of the video for Jennifer Warnes version of "First we take Manhattan" (can't find it on Youtube unfortunately - possibly some will know what i am talking about)... anyhow, i couldn't figure out a way to make that work, so i tried something else... and it was awful... so i attempted to edit it into submission... and after the 15th run at it, i'm giving up...
I do love the tones in your processing. Beauty is individual and in the eyes of the beholder as you said subjective. I love your photography and processing. I think this is beautiful therefore your choice is beautiful. FAV
@amandal i don't know... it isn't something that i would ever think to actively and purposefully pursue in photography... and as a concept for photography, it just doesn't interest me much...
@northy Well done!! and this is wonderful processing!
crikey I so know what you are talking about ... and interestingly when i was challenged to do a selfie (which i don't like doing so much!) i had thought of something very similar to this.. i.e. nail painting.. but i couldn't pull it off!
Actually when i thought of the word beauty.. I'm not sure I even had of the human kind in mind.... so there you go! Mission accomplished and now you can move on to something you would really like to turn your camera to!!
That's funny. I find a lot of your photography beautiful. But maybe it doesn't speak to a general attitude about what society generally thinks of as beauty. There does tend to be an idea of soft, pale pink rather than crisp b&w . . . but I think you still managed to comment on beauty by demonstrating a ritual we all recognize.
@brigette tx Brigette... actually, i was fairly certain you weren't thinking of human beauty, but that just left me scratching my head even more... thank you for the push - it did make me think!

Beauty for me can be everything from a spider to a tree
