sooooo... for some reason (scratches head), people keep challenging me to do colour... ;p
this is for my push challenge set by Anita (@neatz)... Anita suggested i take a silhouette of one of my boys and set it against a psychedelic colour background taken from a kaleidoscope of one of my photos or a piece of fabric or a painted backdrop - whatever comes to mind... and this could be done in post processing...
what came to mind was to play with the gradient tool in photoshop :)
this was a pretty cool challenge...
first off, i had to figure out how to get a silhouette using my flash off camera... really happy to have that sorted...
also learned a bit more about using the selection tool in PS, as well as messing about with gradients and polar coordinate distortion...
i'm hoping the boys will cooperate for another run at this... :)

tx everyone for the wonderful reception on this shot! the recipe for those who asked...
silhouette - for the silhouette i set my off-camera flash on a tripod behind my boy, facing towards a white background... it resulted in a near perfect silhouette shot, but i did tweak in LR upping contrast all around...
the background - on a separate layer in PS, i created a left to right gradient... the gradient was custom created gradient using the 100% noise option - have to confess it was a bit more random than i would like... then applied the polar coordinates filter which resulted in the above background... layered on top of the silhouette in PS and used the "darken" blending mode... (I can explain in more detail if anyone is interested)
OMG you have absolutely nailed this . I wish I had you in my art lessons I teach! This is beyond brilliant. I am so impressed. I love setting challenges like this because they produce such an awesome response. Fav for sure.
How did you get the silhouette? I am overjoyed at this and expect this will whizz up the favs.
This is inspiring -- get pushed is something I've missed since trying to get time under control. This is really an amazing shot and stands out on the TP. Fav -- for the shot and the learning behind it.
