portrait of a flapper

trying the vintage processing again... the main shot was taken yesterday... today i tried adding texture by shooting a piece of crumpled paper and layering it on top with about 35% opacity... or something like that...

a sad attempt at shooting light in my other album...

What a wonderful idea... I love the effect of the crumpled paper!

You have a wonderful figure which is so good for this style of dressing! To me, you are a bit demure for handling a space gun but then that maybe all a disguise!

@3rdxoff tx AC! i can't take credit for the idea... it was a suggested approach in one of the links posted to the technique challenge thread... i was trying to use one of the PSE filters, but for whatever reason, it just wasn't working... so i decided to try making my own texture :)

Very creative of you! Fabulous result with the paper.

Ooh, we're seeing an ankle! How risque! :D Sorry to hear about the cranky - you'd better not go and see any of my shots for the past week... I've been characteristically cheerful again. :D

Lets make that a plural. Ankles. :D Double naughty. :D

Nice. Almost missed this one. Love the composition and processing/paper effect. And the ankles.

Like how you've processed this - it has had the desired effect - great photo

Lovely

Very creative and excellently executed.

Such a cool processing! :)

Love the pose!
Don't forget to play with layer blend modes as well as opacity - overlay & soft light work well for textures.

Awesome!!!

@humphreyhippo i actually don't know how to do that... i mean, i know i can learn pretty easily an' all, but i really haven't applied myself to learning PSE... considering whether i ought to go whole hog and get the full PS or not and then will start making more of a concerted effort...

Oh, very vintage! Fabulous. and well done on making your own paper texture... I love doing that too.

Really cool. It has my vote.

It is so cracking me up that it is vintage and you are a flapper and have a nerf machine gun. You are one fun lady. Love the processing, too. Aren't selfies fun?
August 28th, 2013
@amandal so NOT fun, actually ;0

Maybe if you do them more they will become fun? I don't know. I love them, but they are hard in many ways, too. I find it fun to come up with ideas...especially the wacky ones.

@amandal mmmm... well, i don't like having my picture taken in the first place... plus i am rotten when it comes to posed shots - not just of me, but of anyone... so it turns into yuck soup for me pretty quickly ;p that said, it's a good exercise... i no longer consider them self-portraits, but more a model shoot, only i'm the model (i.e.: it's not about me - it's about the concept)... this is turning into a good exercise because i am starting to get a better sense of what works in terms of poses, set up and lighting... which hopefully means that it will be all that much easier next time i convince someone else to pose... in the meantime, my 5+2 selfie is done and will be posted shortly... :p[
