this week Jule (@justaspark) pushed me to do a people-less selfie using at least 20, and preferably more, items... this turned out to be a HUGE challenge for me... (1) i almost never do still life shots... (2) when i do still life shots, i rarely use more than 2 or 3 items... and (3) i don't really think about myself in terms of things... anyhoo, here ya have me... in a basket... what-all of me is here in this picture?
1. it's taken in my *dungeon* - one of my favourite backdrops ;p
2. it's dark, processed in black and white, with murky green split tones
3. my yoga mat (because some days i like to play dress up, put on some yoga pants and pretend i can balance like a tree)
4, 5 & 6. baseball bat, hockey stick & lacrosse stick - belonging to my kids... i spend a lot of time taking them too and from arenas & sports fields and watching them play
7. hiking boots - altho' i don't use them as much as i should
8. running shoes - see comment above
9 & 10. masks (i like 'em)
11. sabre-toothed cat (something else i like)
12. my laptop - a recent acquisition, but we've bonded
13. a witch's hat (one of several i happen to own)
14, 15 &16. books - winnie the pooh, a discovery of witches and the first harry potter... i grew up on WTP... i spent years reading murder mysteries, but couldn't find any on the surface when hunting out the items for this shot... so you get examples of my fantasy addiction (i'm pretty sure that my letter from Hogwarts got lost en route somewhere over the Atlantic)
17. the dark knight
18. the feral rabbit
19. starbucks cup... i am addicted to mocha-frappacinos... with lots of whipped cream
20. one of those knight figurines... he got caught on the netting of the witch's hat and so accidentally found his way into the shot
21. the skull
22. my other camera
23 & 24. chocolate (another addiction)
25. my iPhone (without which i am lost... my work bberry is hiding in there too - without which i am lost at work)
26, 27 & 28. DVDs - men in black, star trek and sky fall... i tend to like my movies fantastical and stylish
29. twinings earl grey tea (decaf)
30, 31 and 32. lipstick, mascara and eyeliner (make-up of choice)
33 & 34. murky nail polish colours... for my toes... there was actually a third bottle of nail polish but it slipped down well out of view
35 & 36. calyx and a scent - i am the queen of perfumes that go out of production... fortunately they brought calyx back...
37. the laundry basket... a bit of a cheat really, as most of the laundry is done by the kids' nanny, but i help too! and honestly, with three boys playing a bunch of sports, the laundry is pretty much endless
not really a great effort photographically, but i just don't know what to do with this much *stuff* for a shot...
i now have to spend some serious time working or i will start off monday morning behind the 8-ball... will try to catch up with folks later...
@quixoticneophyte nope... standing is "mountain" pose ;p tree pose is standing on one foot... (and the fact that i actually think i know this is rather amusing to me)
@northy Are you allowed to sit in an easy chair whilst standing on one foot? If so, I'm a natural at this Yoga thing! I do it all the time, one foot on the ground, usually just the heel too, which takes great effort, I'll let you know! :P
@quixoticneophyte chair pose is intense... you do NOT want to try it... there's always "corpse" pose tho'... which is just lying down... all muscles relaxed... and eyes closed... i call it sleeping... but whatevs ;p
@northy I am relieved to know that's not a sawn off shotgun in the basket of goodies, on the right, next to the bottle. I'm presuming that's the makeup.
@quixoticneophyte yeah... make-up... lipstick and stuff... no sawn off shotguns in my house... i could have included a nerf gun or two (or 5 or 10)... we have a whole arsenal of those... but mostly i ignore them ;p
@northy We have three teenage boys, Nerf Guns are everywhere! As are the pellets, darts, discs and bullets. I'm pretty sure they have every one that ever existed, from the tiny little keychain single shooter, my fave for easy concealment right up to the behemoth thing on the tripod that looks like it belongs on top of a Hummer!
@quixoticneophyte we have a behemoth... really wish i had a shot of my now 10 year old using this thing a couple years back... it was bigger than he was and he looked like something out of a tarantino movie with it ;p
So glad this popped up on Flashback Friday -- at first glance I thought, @graemestevens -- but at close look and with narrative, I feel like I'm getting to :"meet you". before I even get to Toronto!
