This was taken in the capital of Boa Vista. The electric came on at 5pm each day and went off again at midnight. The women took their washing to a bank of outdoor concrete sinks where they did the washing like my Gran used to....the washboard, warm water (warmed by the sun) and everything washed by hand. They made it into a social gathering! I wish I could carry stuff on my head like that!
