Foreshore Drive Then and Now by onewing

Foreshore Drive Then and Now

Hi everyone, just popping in briefly to post this diary shot. Some of you will remember that in March of last year during our heavy rains the road along the foreshore collapsed. It increased out travel time quite significantly as Foreshore Drive was a great shortcut across the bay.

Well nine months after the closure the road was finally opened again on the 23 December. As you can see it isn't quite finished yet but at least we can drive that way again.

We drove along it for the first time in months at the beginning of January on our way to Bunnings to buy a new paint roller, so I had to stop and take this photo.

As many of you will know I am taking a bit of a break from 365 this year as I have lots of other projects on the go.

Since I stopped posting we have painted our main bathroom. I have completed my 365 photobook for 2021 (a project I do gradually through the year), but I put the finishing touches to it at the beginning of January, proof read it and sent off the order. Can't wait to see the finished book.

I have been updating my family history records, a hobby I have picked up again as more information is available online. At the moment I am working on one line of the family and have gone back to the early 1700s on that line. I have been writing up the stories of each of the individuals, it is a slow and complicated process but I am enjoying revisiting some of my relatives from days gone by.

I had my Covid booster vaccine on Sunday and felt a bit out of sorts on Monday, but fine since.

Yesterday we took down the venetian blinds in our main bathroom and two of our bedrooms ready for plantation shutters being installed tomorrow. We have had a bit of a clear out and tidy up in two of our bedrooms too. Both bedrooms will need painting but that is a job for later in the year. It is summer here in Australia and so hot and humid right now. We nearly melted painting the bathroom. So painting the bedrooms is probably going to have to wait until about April (autumn in Australia) when it is cooler.

I have uploaded the photos for my family history photo book too and have begun putting that photobook together.

I have just noticed that my End of the Year photo is on the top twenty too, so thanks so much for putting it there.

I am going to check out your photos while I am having my morning cuppa now and I will be posting occasionally when thing settle down again here. I miss you all and I will be back from time to time. Stay safe in 2022.

PS Just thought I would start a new album for this year so have just added that one. If I have done it right I will move the picture to the new album.
I’m glad the road is open for you now.
I’m going to be busy soon, doing up bathrooms. You can come and go on this site as much as you like, we will be here when you continue.

Nice to read your update Babs. I think it’s a good idea to take a break in order to concentrate on other projects. I need to do that myself but I’m struggling with my addiction (to 365). Good luck with everything that you’re doing.

Lots of messages Babs…just shows how we miss & look out for our 365 friends! It’s a great feeling that I think.
Good you have that short cut again if only for the amount of extra fuel you would use….fuel has got so expensive here. You have managed to get lots done so lots of jobs to tick off. Keep popping in!! X

I will be back but I need a break at the moment to catch up with other projects. I haven't been out with my camera this year. I have taken a few photos with my phone though.

@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana. I will be back later in the year and I will pop in from time to time but I need to clear some of my other projects first.
I love plantation shutters. We have them already in our bedroom, living room and dining room and today we have had them put in our main bathroom and two of our other bedrooms. They look fabulous. So pleased with the new ones.

@casablanca Thanks. Hope you are keeping well. I will catch up by email soon. Just got to get a few things done at the moment.
Had plantation shutters installed today in our main bathroom and two of our bedrooms. We have them in 6 rooms now and are so pleased with them.

It did take them a while to finish the road, but it was a huge job and the road had to be raised because the culvert had collapsed A combination of high tides, heavy rain and poor maintenance caused the problem in the first place. Plus also we were in lockdown for a few months too.

@happypat Thanks Pat. I will check out some of your photos even if I don't post for a while. I am so busy with other projects at the moment and writing up my family history stories is taking a lot of time too. I will be back at some time though.

I envy you your plantation shutters Babs….I love them & we did consider them here but they are very pricy & in the end we decided against but I love the look of them.

Good to see the road restored. It always amazes me how long such repairs take. Good luck with all your projects!
