For the next few days I am posting photos taken while out with our walking group last Thursday at Stockton.
Today's photo is of Nobby's Lighthouse. Nobby's is an active lighthouse established on Nobbys Head in Newcastle in 1854 to guide vessels into the Hunter River.
How it got the name Nobby's Head is a bit of a mystery and nobody seems to know. Maybe the first lighthouse keeper was named Nobby but the real reason is lost to the sands of time.
Nobby used to be a not unusual nickname but I haven’t heard it used fir years! I used to have a boyfriend called Nobby…his surname was Noblet! As you coukd guess!! 🤣🤣 I expect that now it got its name!
Lovely shot!
