Please explain! by onewing

Please explain!

Today’s people photo is of one of our, how shall I put it, rather eccentric politicians. Her name is Pauline Hanson and she opened the rodeo we attended last Saturday.

Pauline was a City of Ipswich (Queensland) councillor in the mid-1990s. Following her disendorsement as the Liberal Party candidate for the federal seat of Oxley for the March 1996 election, she was elected as the independent member in that election. Her profile increased dramatically later that year when she gave her maiden parliamentary speech in which she criticised immigration and multiculturalism, government assistance to Aboriginals and political correctness. She later co-founded the One Nation Party which adopted these principles.

When asked in a "60 minutes" interview if she was xenophobic, she replied, "Please explain?". This response became a much-parodied catchphrase within Australian culture.

Edit: Disclaimer. The above comments were taken from Wikipedia relating to the "Please explain" comment and are not my views in any way shape or form. It was just to explain the title of this photo. I think this is a line which Pauline Hanson has come to regret every saying.

PS On a totally different subject, it actually rained last night and we had five and three quarter millimetres of rain according to our rain catcher. The bad news is that the sun is now shining and the rain water has probably evaporated!
Well...it is a very lovely capture of a pretty lady! Glad you got some rain....ours is coming!!! Probably by Sunday, but it has been so lovely!

It sounded from here like few people were thrilled by the choices you had in your last election :-) You captured her well. I'm sorry I accidentally deleted your comment on my ring when I actually meant to delete my reply with all its typos. That's the trouble with rushing comments before I go to work. We are leaving it until 2015 so we have more choice of venues and more money. That doesn't stop me thinking and planning a lot, though :-)

@eyesmile Thanks Gena. She lives in our neighbourhood which is probably why she was asked to open the rodeo.
One of our walking group ladies is a dead ringer for Pauline and they look so much alike they could be twins!!!

@mrsbaldy Poor Pauline, I don't think she will ever live that line down.

@tryingforsighs Ha Ha, too many choices I think. Apart from the obvious ones we also had The Fishing Party, the Sex Party, the Pirates Party, the Looney Party and lots more, too many to choose from. I would love to know how many votes the Sex Party got!!!
Not to worry about deleting the comment on the ring photo. I never comment on photos in a morning until I have had two cups of tea!!! It was a beautiful shot, one to keep in the album I reckon. Have fun planning the wedding.

@christinehosey @humphreyhippo @derekvickers Thanks. I think Pauline is just a litttle bit eccentric. Apparently at one stage she was receiving death threats and made a video saying "If you are watching this, then I am dead". The video was shown on the television, but she is still alive and kicking as you can see.

@gypsy6 Well spotted. Didn't notice the flags.

@sunraye Pauline is a little bit odd to say the least. As are most of our politicians though I think!!!
