Today we went to Raymond Terrace which is one of New South Wales' oldest towns. It was established in 1837. This is one of the oldest streets. Anita thinks it looks like the wild west! I think she was expecting to bump into the Lone Ranger.
@jackie8@gamelee@mcmary@ginnykoppenhol@gypsy6@joeyc@savannah51 Thanks everyone. Some interesting questions about this picture. Raymond Terrace isn't a ghost town, but this particular street is one of the oldest in the area. It is just by the river, which back in the 1800's was the only mode of transport to the area. I think initially these houses must have been shops serving locals and people who came here by river. Most are single houses now, but I think one or two are still shops. I seem to remember that one house just off the picture is a craft shop.
It does look like the wild west! You captured lots of character here! The architecture, the blue sky and no one on the streets does make it look like a movie set! Awesome image!
@steampowered@iwatts Thanks. This is one of the oldest streets at Raymond Terrace and was probably built during the gold rush in Australia. As many came from America to find gold, that is probably where the influence of the buildings came from. Lots of our country towns from this time are similar.
@eyesmile T%hanks Gena. Raymond Terrace is a very old town. Houses are probably influenced by the American gold prospectors who came here during the gold rush years.
