Today we went on a tour of Port Waratah Coal Services in Newcastle and a brilliant presentation and tour it was too.
After a PowerPoint presentation, we were driven around the site and this photo is taken from inside the car.
The yellow structure is the reclaim machine which takes the coal from the stock pile and puts it on the conveyor belt to the ship. The grey structures are the conveyor belts transporting the coal to the ships. Each conveyor belt is 6 km long.
We were being driven in between the conveyor belts in this shot.
It was a brilliant day and if anyone lives in the Newcastle area it is very well worth a visit. The tour is free and takes nearly three hours.
PS Sorry for not being able to comment on your photos and replying to comments made about my photos much for the last couple of days, but I have had a busy few days. I will try and catch up later tonight.
I love this shot. I'm particularly interested in all sorts of things related to industry, past and present. You've captured the immensity of the subject with the way you've used the converging lines. Love the symmetry too.
@hermann@ivan Thanks it was a really interesting tour.@iwatts Thanks Ian. Tried it in b&w, looks good. I will have to post that version later. Will let you know when.
@mcmary@paulaw@angelar@joeyc@dolphin Thanks so much. It was really interesting driving in between the conveyor belts like this. The sheer size of the structures is amazing.
@golftragic Thanks Marnie. It was a brilliant day and the tour is free. Doesn't get better than that does it. It is lovely to have a day out in Newcastle. Such an interesting city.
@ourrube@lafish Thanks. We had a great day. Very informative too. Because we live by the ocean it always good to go to Newcastle and get some industrial shots sometimes.
