We have had quite a long day today. I had a hospital appointment early this morning in Newcastle and after that we went to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year photography exhibition at Newcastle Library. Brilliant exhibition and well worth going to see if anyone is in Newcastle.
After that of course, we had to go to the best second-hand bookshop in Newcastle at Cooks Hill, lunch in Newcastle and then a leisurely drive home again.
There are two wrecks in this picture on the Hunter River at Stockton, but it is difficult to see where one ends and the other begins.
There are lots of shipwrecks around this area and some are more famous than others. I can't find any information on this one though. I thought this would be ideal for the rust challenge.
@annied You would love it Annie. there were three photos of dugong's too and I reckon yours was just as good. the only thing is the ones in the exhibition are in the wild.
I think the exhibition is on until the 9 August at the Newcastle Library.
What an interesting wreck. This one looks accessible by road, whereas I always thought the Stockton Wrecks were hard to get to. Or are they different ones?
What a lot of rust Babs, nice find. My friend and I nearly went to Newcastle yesterday but when my friend arrived to pick me up she said it was a long drive so we went to Sydney University, Newtown and then the beach instead. Hope your appointment turned out well. I remember you going to that exhibition last year and I was hoping to see it too but we never got there. Maybe I can get there this year.
@tomtom Thanks Andrew. Yes Stockton Bridge in the background. The light wasn't very good as the sun was in the wrong place really for this photo, but I had to be careful where I stood. Lots of mud around. ha ha.
@888rachel Yes this is accessible from the road, it is on Fullerton Street the road into Stockton along the river. It can be seen quite easily at low tide, but once the tide is high it is almost covered. There are lots of wrecks around Stockton and you can see them from the road or walkways. the only one you can't see from the road is the famous one The Sygna which is only accessible from Stockton sand dunes near Tin city.
@darthkitty Well spotted. The light wasn't the best for this photo as I had to balance on rocks so as not to step in the mud. The birds love landing on the wrecks around here.
@elaine55 Thanks Elaine. Probably about one ahd a half hours to Newcastle from where you are. If you do come up again let me know. Newcastle is only about an hour from where we are.
The appointment was to see the anaesthetist. I have to go in for surgery in a couple of weeks.
@chimfa Thanks Jane. It was a bit of a balancing act not to get too muddy. I had to balance on the occasional rock to get this and was lucky not to slip either. Didn't want to fall in that mud.
I think the exhibition is on until the 9 August at the Newcastle Library.

Hope all went well at the hospital.
