As I have posted photos of both the Bogey Hole and Newcastle Ocean Baths over the last couple of days I thought I would post a shot of Merewether Ocean Baths today.
This particular baths is about 2 km from the Bogey Hole going in the other direction along the coast.
I took this photo last August and didn't post it. As you can see even though August is the middle of winter in Australia, it was still a beautiful, if rather chilly day. Even so there were a few brave souls swimming. The sea temperature probably wasn't much different to the land temperature so not too traumatic for the swimmers.
I think this particular day the temperature was probably around 17 degrees C.
I think this ocean baths was built in the 1930s, so it is the most recent of the three baths in the area.
All the pools are great places to swim and safe from sharks. I watched the youtube clip you posted in your reply to Maggie - the sharks were so close to the beach!
Your Baths are so interesting. I donβt believe we have anything like them here. Kind of protected water but you still enjoy the ocean. Lovely really.
@nickspicsnz The youtube clip was scary wasn't it. Quite unusual to get so many sharks though, it was because of the large number of mullet at that time. The beach at Fingal was cleared today because a tiger shark was spotted.
@quietpurplehaze Me too Hazel.
@pcoulson Yes Peter I remember when temperatures like this were a warm day in the UK. Not any more though.
