Another Birubi photo. Each weekend there are 20 minute camel rides at Birubi Beach and to end the day there is a one hour long camel ride over the dunes at sunset. I have taken the grandchildren on the 20 minute ride, but we haven't done the sunset trek as yet.
I once edited a book about camels and remember being so surprised how many camels there are in Australia. They make great photo subjects and their faces are so expressive
Camels are very majestic looking animals. I almost got bitten recently though trying to get a photo of a sitting down camel, his friend came from nowhere!!! I live to tell the tale though!!
Lovely shot, hubby and I did a sunset camel trek in Dubai, amazing, but I don't remember it been an hour ride although I'm rather glad it wasn't its not that comfortable, but an amazing experience.
@helenm2016@happypat Yes there are about 750,000 feral camels wandering around the outback I believe. They were introduced in the 19th century to transport heavy machinery to build the railways in the outback I believe and then they were let loose.
@sangwann This particular group of camels are reasonably well behaved, we do see the odd one that ends up in the naughty corner for a while though.
@paul10 It is fun. Before we came to Australia we went on a camel ride in Israel, you don't expect to see camels on the Mount of Olives, but there they were.
@kathiecb We have about 750,000 feral camels in Australia. They were introduced in the 19th century to transport machinery to build the railways and then they were abandoned.
@maggiemae No Maggie, not in Egypt, just Anna Bay
