At our local craft group we were decorating small cardboard gift boxes and some people were decorating their boxes with material and embroidering the top but I decided to decorate mine with string art.
I made a sample first and here it is. This is made with rainbow crochet string and sewn onto a piece of black card. I put this design on the lid of the box and the sides are decorated with a star design which I will post tomorrow.
I didn't use graph paper I just drew the design in photoshop and then printed out a template. You can make the design any size and mine is much smaller than the one shown in the link.
@annied the kids at your school would love it. My kids did these when they were small and I used to do them when I was at school too back when Noah was a lad. This was done with crochet cotton on black card.

Not talented Sam, just going back to childhood. We used to make these in school. ha ha.
