We had 2 cubic metres of logs delivered a couple of weeks ago and now they are stacked neatly in our wood shed.
Yesterday I chopped lots of kindling wood too so we are all set now for when the weather gets cooler. Not quite there yet but I expect it will start to get chilly at nights in a couple of weeks and we get to the end of autumn.
Looks good .. always nice to see a nicely stacked woodpile.. Wehave had a couple of fires already .. I think FG was spoiling me .. It is satisfying chopping kindling .. though when I do it I often think of my Mum .. when I was small I can remember her coming in the house clutching her hand in her apron.. saying I think I need a plaster ... she pulled out her hand and there was her finger just dangling by a very small 'thread'... some handy work by the Drs and she got to keep her finger ...
@julzmaioro Oh dear. I have to admit I have a few band aids on my legs and arms where the wood flew through the air after I chopped it and it skinned my legs etc. but I haven't had any serious injuries. I have to take daily aspirin so I bleed easily, but I don't think we are at the transfusion stage yet.
I used to love chopping kindling, Harry does it now he’s not busy on the farm. Lovely pile of wood,,,very satisfying! We are still having a fire every night as it’s goes quite chilly later.
@happysnaps Still in the 20s here too, but beginning to get cooler at night now.
@casablanca Yes it is satisfying chopping the kindling with an axe. Most of our big logs are the right size to fit in the woodburner but a few of the delivered logs need chopping with the chainsaw and splitting in the log splitter. We are very well prepared.

It is beginning to get cool at night now but not cool enough to light the fire yet. I reckon it will only be a couple of weeks before we have the fire lit at night.
Luckily it doesn't get cold enough in winter to have the fire lit all day. I think only about 5 or 6 days during the whole of winter we have to light the fire during the day.

We are done with wood............gas all the way now!
