Thanks for your comments and favs on yesterday's Mitch Revs artworks. Staying with the art theme at the moment. This tapestry is in on the wall in our local library. It isn't easy to get a good photo of it because it is high up and the lights are in the way too, but it does look impressive when you see it in person. The tapestry is about 2 metres high and 7 metres across.
Every project starts with a germ of an idea and this project began in August 2000 when the Community Development Officer of Tomaree Library approached the local arts centre with a request for a quilt for one of the bare walls in the new library building.
Eventually the Thursday patchworkers at the arts centre, came up with the idea to design a landscape of the local area. It was decided to include historical features, natural beauty and the tourist attractions of this beautiful place. The aim was to include the talents of as many members of the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre as possible and 75 people were involved in the making of this tapestry. The project took 2 years to complete.
I am still a bit absent from 365. David had more CT scans today and I had a medical appointment later this afternoon to get the results of my blood tests. I need a cuppa now and a sit down before I have to think about dinner.
@mrslaloggie Yes it is quilted I think it is a cross between a tapestry and a quilt because the background is a quilt with the added bits of flowers, boats, trees etc sewn on top of the background.
A lot of hard work went into that! It's a beauty. Sounds like you need a bit of a rest - medical trips are exhausting things. Always so much waiting around. As my hubby used to say in the army, it was always "hurry up and wait."
@ingrid01 Yes well spotted. We live in the area just left of centre of the picture just by where the two dolphins are. The bit that juts out is the Corlette headland and where the breakwater is. Can you see me waving?
The picture of the storm a couple of days ago was taken in the bay where the dolphins are. Hope they missed the storm. ha ha

Ingrid @ingrid01 recognised the area from my photos. In fact we live in the area just left of centre of the picture where the two dolphins are.
