Mr and Mrs Butcherbird visit every day too for raw mince and they always seem to turn up at the same time as the kookaburras so I think they must be neighbours.
This is a photo of Mr Butcherbird and I will post a photo of his Mrs tomorrow.
Their babies have grown up now and no doubt they will be turning up with another youngster soon as Spring is just around the corner.
@ludwigsdiana He does land on your hand sometimes and we hand feed him. He is very gentle. They are closely related to the magpie only much smaller. The get the name butcherbird because they impale their pray on a thorn or the fork of a tree and then dissect it.
They are cheeky little buggars. We have Pied Butcherbirds and from what I can tell, the two species do not tolerate each other at all since the compete for the same habitat, food, etc.
@shutterbug49 @kjarn @gosia @joansmor @beryl @wakelys @robz @happysnaps @sangwann I love their beaks, they are gorgeous birds.
@pusspup Yes he sang for me, that's how he lets me know he wants feeding. He has got me well and truly trained.
@koalagardens I love them too, they are such characters.
@terryliv I haven't seen any pied butcherbirds in our area but we do see them when we go to Newcastle. Perhaps our greys have seen them off.
