I spotted this tawny frogmouth in one of our trees fast asleep. They aren't easy to spot but the lorikeets didn't seem to like him being there.
Tawny Frogmouths are night birds so I don't think he liked having his daytime sleep interrupted.
They make the strangest sounds at night. I was just going to sleep one night and could hear the tawny frogmouth on our roof. It can sound quite eerie when you are just about to nod off. ha ha.
What an amazing looking fellow beautifully captured Babs, I just had to find out more about them, most of all I was surprised to find its not an owl, Fav:)
Crikey I have never heard of or even seen a photo of that bird….wow it looks quite out if this world….I thought it was a stuffed one at first & you had made the name up!
@wakelys No idea how it got its name, but it does have a mouth quite like a frog so maybe that is why it is called a frogmouth. People mistake them for owls sometimes but they are closer to the nightjar family.
@k9photo@pcoulson They do get mistaken for owls sometimes but they are similar to the nightjar family rather than owls.
@koalagardens We get quite a few of them here luckily, I love them.
@casablanca Ha ha he does look like a Muppet doesn't he. Doesn't look real somehow.
@gilbertwood One of my favourite birds too.
