Gate Post by onewing

Gate Post

All it needs is a lick of paint and it will be as good as new.

This was a gate post at one of the early settler houses in Morpeth. I don't think it has been painted since it was built.

You have captured loads of texture and rust here, Babs. It's lovely.

Well at least it looks like the birds have been trying to decorate it :-)

Thanks everyone. I think this gate post was the original when the houses were built back in the 1800s. I suspect that the owners have decided to leave it that way, as the fences and the rest of the buildings are well maintained. Perhaps they just wanted to keep something of the original in there.
Yes Pat I can see you out here with your paint brush in hand.

Wonderful rust capture, with a little bird decorations through in for good measure!

Great POV. I think they must have overlooked this when painting the fence. Perhaps they're arguing about the colour. Haha

@debilz @dgrynn @kathiecb I think the owners decided to keep the history there as the rest of the house is very well maintained. @eyesmile Thanks so much for the fav Gena.

Lovely "decay" photo. Morpeth? Is this the Aussies stealing our British place names again? That's in Scotland for me!
June 12th, 2014
hey did you visit my yard? This post looks just like mine, mine a bit worse, Ha ha , great pic
June 12th, 2014
@angelar The Aussies steal a lot of British place names. I think whoever settled here in the early days named the places because they remind them of where they came from. Newcastle was probably named because of the coal and the steel works which is why the people came here in the first place.

@888rachel @annied @almondjoy1 I think this is being kept deliberately like this as the rest of the house is in a good state of repair.

If your gate post looks like this Joy, keep it that way it gives it character.
