This picture is of the flooring in one of the courtyard cafe's at Morpeth.
I was told that the bricks with the shapes imprinted in them were made by convicts, but I don't know if that is true or not. It makes a pretty impressive floor for the café though.
Nicely captured...love the textures and and tones. Such an interesting floor....Wouldn't want to walk on it with heels on (but the I haven't worn heels for over 10 years)
What a great display of bricks Babs. The ones with names on 'em are commercial brickworks, but the others may well be handmade by whomever. Some there look old enough to be from convict days.
Thanks so much. I have done some checking up on the bricks and the ones with names on are from brickmakers works, but I believe the ones with diamonds and other shapes on are convict bricks. There are some for sale on the Internet with diamond shapes imprinted on them and the chap is asking $10 a brick for them. Maybe I should go back to Morpeth and dig a few up, ha ha.
