Cleave(rs)

30 days wild - Day 25

Afternoon of weeding in the garden: cleavers, nettles, brambles. Mark busy with the chain saw and splitting wood.
Love your focus on the foreground which explains the action going on in the background. I have lots of cleavers growing through my hedge - did you know it was used somtimes as a tea strainer.

@kali66 @overalvandaan 'A weed is only a plant growing in the wrong place.'

@kali66 @snaphappi love the different names for it: Catchweed, Goose Grass, Velcro Plant, Stickywilly. And it's good for treating eczema.

Feel almost sorry for pulling the nettles, brambles and cleavers out.

Shepherds use to use this too to strain hairs out of milk! There are so many different names for it - I've always known it as goosegrass. There's an account of an old lady in Staffordshire making goosegrass beer, which was known as ' Granny Holden's pop'! I did a wildflower folklore course a few weeks ago and 'studied' goosegrass for half an hour - each person in the group did a different plant then we each had a copy of the information sheet we produced for each plant - it's amazing how much there is to discover about everything and what you can learn in just a few minutes research - my books wish-list grew a lot that day! Sorry for rambling on anyway - I was meant to just say that I really like the composition here, but then I saw Maggie's comment and got carried away!!

Like peaking through the weeds. We have a saying that chopping wood makes you twice warmed; once while you're chopping it and one when you burn it.

We call it "biddy-bid".

Like the blurry effect of the figure. Nicely done.
