Lev, my four and half year old, is scared of monsters under his bed. We had a look, but couldn't find any. I asked him if he wanted his mattress on the floor. Yes! And he wanted socks on. Oh, well, okay then. For several weeks he slept on the mattress on the floor, socks on and no mention of monsters. A couple of weeks ago though, he wanted the mattress back on his bed. 'Fine', I said, 'Shall I take your socks off, it's warm enough in bed'. 'No', he replied, 'otherwise the monsters will bite my toes off'. That's how he deals with his monsters.
