We had a lovely day driving up the coast of the Lake District stopping off at a couple of places for Finlay to have a run along the beach. We reached Whitehaven and had a wander round the harbour choosing which expensive looking boat we fancied. I liked the look of this tall ship moored all alone. Converted to B&W with Nik Efex Pro.
Best against black.
Many thanks for your lovely comments on yesterday's shots - very much appreciated as always.
How lovely to see this on the PP! Many thanks for getting it there!
@motherjane We have been lucky with the weather so far but tomorrow rain is forecast. We are not sure where to go in the rain with a dog. Any ideas? I am looking forward to driving into the actual lakes but not sure we will get any views in the rain. Sadly my sister and I are not very fit and will not be able to do any walks to the tops of the hills as I did when I was younger and fitter!!
Beautiful comp and processing, fav for me. My mother was born in Whitehaven. Her dad was killed there in a mining disaster, and my Nana to be moved her family south to Leeds, partly so that her sons would not end up going down the mines. If she hadn't done that, I suppose my mum and dad would never have met, and I wouldn't exist. History is a funny thing sometimes.
Muncaster castle (don't think you can take your dog in side though) Ullswater/Keswick boat trip? Rum story and Haig pit both in Whitehaven, motor museum near hatherthwaite, the railway there, lall ratty from ravenglass to boot, hope you find something to do in the rain!
Hubby got all excited by this picture, and we had to spend a while checking out what type of ship it is. Apparently it's a topsail schooner. I love your sepia treatment.
@countrylassie Thanks Lesley I was soaked on my morning walk along the beach with Finlay - had to change all my clothes!! We drove to Windermere and had a walk round - rain had eased and it was just drizzle. We did a circular drive home - through Ambleside and Coniston. We couldn't see the Old Man though as all the hills were covered in thick cloud. Got back to Bardsea and the rain had stopped so we had another walk along the beach with Finlay. Lets hope the weather improves as I would like to get some photos of the mountains.
