I am still laughing (nearly crying) at the crazy health and Safety rules in this country!! This morning at the country park I saw a man wrapping this red and white tape around some trees and between the trees. I asked him what he was doing and he explained that there is a cycle race in the park tomorrow 3,6 or 9 miles and he had the job of painting rocks sticking up and marking trees so that they would be covered by their insurance should anyone hit one and hurt themselves!! For goodness sake - it's a tree and if someone hits it they must be blind - the trees are just off the track on flat ground. He explained that the authorities are making it more and more difficult and expensive for them to organise cycle races. What is this all about? On one hand they are trying to get people out to exercise especially riding bikes and on the other they are making it almost impossible for them to do so. The Nanny State strikes again!!

Many thanks for your lovely comments on yesterdays images - always very much appreciated!!
Had to laugh at this....the rules & regulations are just ridiculous! No one need to be responsible for their own safety these days! Interesting discussion Pam, we could say lots more!!
Totally ridiculous. It makes me mad that people who are fast to sue make the world more unpleasant for those of us that figure if we hurt ourselves it’s our mistake rather than someone else bing to blame
I think each individual wood chip should also be labeled: "Caution, if you fall on me, I might jab into your eye and blind you." Then there's the grass. Warnings about the permanence of grass stains on clothing are needed. And the sky - a meteor might fall out of it during the race and hurt/kill someone. How did people ever survive before our "modern" era? -_-
Loved your story. There's a series of cycle road-races in Geelong this (long) weekend. Gazillions of them everywhere. As for the Nanny State, something I often refer to as the bubble-wrap state, I'm constantly appalled and/or annoyed. All sorts of thing we did as kids (if I remember back that far) are out of thquestion for today's helicopter parents and various authorities. Whatever happened to calculated risk and self-responsibility. Taping trees????? Haven't got that here - yet!!
