As you walk through the woods in Castle Ashby Gardens you come across a lake with a lovely bridge over it. I have taken a shot of this tree before, as I love the colour of the trunk, and I think someone kindly identified the tree as some kind of cherry but sadly I cannot find the shot with the information. ID gratefully received if anyone has any ideas.
Pam, this looks like it belongs in Disneyland or Hogwarts. A natural tree with such extraordinary bands of color defies our imagination, we automatically think "fiction". It's lovely.
With a scene this beautiful at this time of year, I can only wonder at how gorgeous it will continue to become as as everything leafs out! Tree type? I have no idea, but will be interested to follow this discussion. (Though I have NO IDEA what I'd do with it, I'd loe to have a yard of satin fabric in that rich claret/cherry shade!)
Yes it is a birch bark cherry tree, I recognise the bark, beautiful, we tried to grow one in our front garden but failed miserably. It was to expensive to try again!! Fav
