2017 02 20 - End of season bargain

This is my Slipper Orchid which I bought a few years ago as an "End of Season bargain" I think I paid £2 for it and it looked as if it didn't have long to last. It seems to love it on the North facing window sill and this is the second year we have had beautiful flowers. Two flowers last year and six flowers this year. I do love a bargain!!

Uploaded for my extras album
So unique and looks like its thriving.

This is beautiful. Would love to have orchids but..... with my lack of of a green thumb they would end up like my other house plants....... not good!

Lovely shot

Love this shot. Lovely! You have the perfect place light-wise for it, they are super fussy about their sunlight.

You must definitely have a green thumb - it's beautiful - and such lovely lighting you used to get those details.

That's certainly a beautiful bargain, Pam! I like rescuing plants as well! I bought one recently at Costco, and love the notion that you break up an ice cube (3 ice cubes to be exact) and just put them on it once a week! Seeing yours, I just asked Ken to get me some so I can water it for the week! I'll cross my fingers...mine's in a north-facing window, too...

@Weezilou not heard about usingvi e cubes! I put all my orchids into the sink once every two weeks and fill the sink with Luke warm water with some plant food. I leave them for about an hour then pull out the plug and let the water drain away. When I first had an orchid I watered it from the top and overwatered it as it would be left standing in water. A lovely lady at the garden centre told me how to water them and now I have 12 orchids all thriving.

@pamknowler Clearly you've broken the code! Your idea almost sounds easier! I just said to Ken that I can't imagine putting *ice* on an orchid since they're hot house plants! Just doing what the tag says to do... I'll have to farm it out for half the year at some point, so I don't know how long I'll have it! At leat at full price they're still not expensive!
