Another of the mysterious photos sent to me by my brother's partner Kerry saying they were relatives of ours. My sister and I have no idea who these two men may be. So frustrating. They appear to be in policemen's uniforms which is even more interesting as we have never heard of any family member being in the police until my sister's son Richard. I wonder who they are?
I just had a great idea (well, great to me) -- since you don't know who they are, think of the narratives you can create about your family! I have almost no clue about ancestors beyond grandparents, so often play with ideas when I read historical fiction -- placing our family members in what might have been our storied lives.
How frustrating for you. Definitely look like police uniforms. The armband on the left wrist are duty armbands. They used to wear these when they were on duty. Maybe go into your local museum or police station and they could help you with the collar badges and hat badges to pin it down closer.
Have you done your family history at all? Maybe if you can trace a policeman in your family on census records.
@pamknowler Make up several, one each so they each have a story to tell where they are the star...and you can link it to traits in current family members. Make it into a scrapbook or photobook -- I think it could be great fun.
@onewing yes Babs we have done as much of our family history as we can with the wonderful help of Rhoda who is Terry' s wife @terryliv . I am sure there is no mention of any policemen though. We are originally from south London but now living in the east Midlands so not easy to check at the library.
What a neat photo! I wonder about the gentleman on the left, with the stripes on his right sleeve, could he be the other man's superior? This is great!
We have a big envelope of photos we "inherited" from deceased family - with no notations and no one left to identify - so frustrating. This looks like an interesting photo.
@terryliv I am so excited to find this out thanks to Rhoda and you Terry!! I am trying to print out the census pages but at the moment I am getting both on one page and its too small to read. I will try again. Thank you so much!!
I loved reading this unfolding story via the comments!!! What an exciting piece of news to come to you via Poppo's wife Rhoda whom Ron has met...you know me and I know Ron! Our 6 degrees of separation is getting smaller and smaller! AND you've found your great great grandfather!!! A pity you can't count on a woman who was close to your brother, but you've got a loose-knit community of people who want to see this turn into a success! (I have a cousin's wife who holds a genealogy chart my father made...it's quite a large roll of paper . She didn't want to share it with me...my father's daughter, but she, an Irish woman who married my cousin and has no links to our background, is holding it hostage! Personally I think individuals who would hold family history from the rightful recipients are evil!)
@Weezilou oh yes I hadn't thought of that Louise! How close 365 has brought us from the US to the UK and to Australia! How amazing is that! What a meet up that would be! You have put it better than I could - my feelings exactly about Kerry - evil! I know my brother wanted certain things to go to his two children as he told me. Foolishly he left everything to Kerry in his will thinking she would carry out his wishes. Sadly he didn't write the requests in the will! She has kept everything! She has no children or family and I wonder what will happen when she dies? It will certainly be lost to our family! My brother was an artist who exhibited at the Royal Acadamy and there are many paintings that should remain in the family. He,also wrote poetry and kept it diary! Grrrrr it makes me so mad at how selfish she is!
