This lady was fascinating telling me all about her life as a child growing up on a farm very similar to Ross Farm. All the things she did as a young girl she was doing now in her daily job. She was the dress maker and made all the costumes for 20 workers - 3 sets each. She cooked and baked and did something called tatting which I had never heard of. There were cards for sale in the farm shop which she had made with the tatting pictures on the cards. It is such a delicate sewing skill which I found so interesting.
Here she is making plum puddings for Christmas. They were steaming away on the wood burner.
I hope her skirts don't catch fire! Nice to know there are old people still around that can tell good stories! I used to tat - what a funny word! You have a little shuttle.
What a lovely, private visit we had here with Gail! She certainly was interesting, and I hope her family will be saving her history (as she shared that her daughter can't bake!) The docents that work here really integrate their lives into the farm life and have a real passion for working here...as she has for the past 23 years! Such a good capture for the memory of the day, Pam!
Wow...did she work hard as a child! And probably still works hard. I wouldn't know how to use that stove or keep my clothing so pristine white.
A wonderful capture!
