Two rooms in my house were logging camp cabins in the 1870's and when I pulled up the carpet in one, my living room, I was surprised to see the whole floor covered in linoleum painted to look like a carpet on a wood floor. Wonder who chose it and how long ago, and if it is asbestos?
It was a redwood logging camp and then the two cabins left behind were joined by a room between and add one happened randomly and with a variety of skills
You really live in an interesting place, Dixie! I'd try to keep as much of the history as I could. Your home is unique and lovely and so is this photo. Great job! :)
As far as I know, linoleum doesn't have asbestos in it, it would be the siding of the house that might have that (if you have siding that is). There is a specific look to that kind of siding. Roof shingles were another thing that was notorious for having asbestos in it. I think there are tests that home inspectors can do to determine what's in there, but it might be pricey. I've seen them test that type of thing on home improvement shows. So, the linoleum is actually painted and not pre-printed? If so, the detail is amazing. It must have taken hours to paint it- and in a logging camp no less! What an incredible story your house has!
Ann I am sure there is asbestos in the siding on two sides, the other two are shake shingles. I suspect a bare board floor was all the loggers had so this is more recent than that I bet, then the cabins were just bunk houses and they ate in a cook house
