You must not pity me because my sixtieth year finds me still astonished. To be astonished is one of the surest ways of not growing old too quickly.
Sidonie Gabrielle Colette
Why do people talk of the horrors of old age? It's great. I feel like a fine old car with the parts gradually wearing out, but I'm not complaining,... Those who find growing old terrible are people who haven't done what they wanted with their lives.
Martha Gellhorn
looking at growing old as the same sensation this month, I find that beauty changes but remains even in the end of a life
Nice thoughts. I have just turned eighty-one and am growing more astonished every day at how easy and fulfilling life can be when one has nothing more to prove and everything to enjoy.
As my mother says, "Growing old beats the alternative"....and my Dad said, "Better to be picking daisies than pushing up daisies"! Tis sweet to be alive and feel alive!
There are some things about growing old that I honestly hate. I don't like arthritis. I don't like the fact that society in general does not deem me employable. I don't like change just to change- it has to have meaning or be beneficial to makes sense to me. But there are some things about being older that I do like. I don't care if I'm in fashion anymore. I LOVE being a "young" grandma. I appreciate so much more than I ever did before. All in all, it balances out! So I try to enjoy each day as it comes. Nice capture Dixie- and positive quotes too.
i love that martha gellhorn quote. that will be my mantra from now on. i wanted to be old since i was a kid. i always inflated my age by at least seven years. now i'm old, i still want to be old, but without the aches and pains and the vertigo. nice symbolic finish to the sensation challenge. i like it.
