family

Thinking of what brings me joy in June and year round, these are two high on the list. Caesar was 18 when my husband and I inherited him back about 21 or 22 years ago and macaws have about the same life expectancy as a human so he has been just a loud, messy member of the family ever since. He had a few years where the house was filled with babies and toddlers and his snuggle time dropped a lot but he hung in there for the long haul and now that the kids are gone he finds himself stuck being the one who keeps the nest from feeling empty.

Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened.

That's amazing that he's been part of your family for so long. I had no idea that they lived that long. He's so handsome!

@mrssmith203 my aunt inherited an amazon parrot that was 37 years old - 62 years ago and pancho still is going strong but there are documented cases of Amazons in captivity living past 130.
