Hot

I had been to 7 national capitols but never before to Washington DC. It was baking hot, and far more humid than I had ever experienced even though I live where we get 100 inches of rain a year. I got to see the Smithsonian, and the Washington Monument and yet, that wasn't matching up with all the pictures of the monument I had seen over the years. ?? The scaffolding creates a whole different and less classic feel.

see here to view it all aglow at night http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/washington-monument-scaffolding-is-aglow/2013/07/08/7927dfd8-e839-11e2-aa9f-c03a72e2d342_gallery.html#photo=9
To bad it was under repair at the time. Although it does look cool at night

The scaffolding definitely makes it look ugly. It's too bad it was up when you were there. I hope you got to see the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials at night. They are so beautiful because of the same white marble.

Yes, it doesn't really look all that good. Yet, this is a historical picture....one that not too many people will get.

Good shot. The Washington Monument definitely looks different with the scaffolding.
