November 16, 1993. We stood in front of the judge and swore to love, honor and cherish our new baby boy and the judge declared us parents. Since then this has been celebrated each year as adoption day, but he is out at sea, crabbing 400 miles south of here and so I am missing him.
Instead here is my bonsai and a few of the small Chinese god goddess figures I collected. Under the trees is the goddess of fertility and I wasn't ever visited very often by her but adoption was a great option.
Three good things
1. Green growing things
2. Adoption
3. Having someone to love, even if that someone is a small green tree
If I'd had my way, we would have adopted a daughter, but Jeff never felt we could "afford" a third mouth to feed. And it was probably true that we would have really stretched the limit with another child. So we have "unofficial" children we've adopted through the years. But I always admire and respect parents who were able to adopt. I can't see any difference whatsoever in loving a child in your care, whether you bore him/her, or they came via adoption. There is a bond between parent and child no matter what way they become a part of your family!
