We did a trip several years ago where we followed a major portion of the Oregon Trail. So interesting. Love fences in photos.... Really do like this shot.

@aglennc I wrote a novel about two girls traveling the Oregon Trail 152 years apart. And we did a lot of driving the routes but this is only a mile from my house.

@pandorasecho Did you get your novel published?? The stories of the westward expansion have always fascinated me. Always wanted to do the Lewis and Clark route!! One of my all time favorite books has been Irving Stone's "Men to Match My Mountains"

@aglennc yes, and the fifth graders in at least one school district use it for American History. Double Time on the Oregon Trail by Dixie Goode

Also thanks or mentioning the other book. I'll check it out.

@pandorasecho As I said, I am fascinated by our country's expansion West. I just ordered your book for my Kindle. Sounds very interesting. I have also been writing since I was a kid, but I just do NOT have the imagination necessary to writing a book. I kept the local Post Office busy with all my dozens of letters to and from pen pals as a kid. Now, of course, it's email. Not the same.......

@aglennc Thank you, I hope you enjoy it. I was a huge pen pal collector as a kid too. Mom had to make me go outside to play, but I would write every chance I got and be disappointed every time the mailman failed to bring a letter.

Sounds like me. I had up to 50 or so at one time. Did you ever meet any f them? When I was in Europe in 1960 I got to meet two of the girls in London, and one on Sweden. Wish I knew where any of them were now. Also met one of several in Australia. She and her family visited us about 25 years ago.

@aglennc from age ten to thirteen I wrote a lot with a girl from Kansas. Then One summer we drove through and I met her but she stopped writing. Then at 16 my German teacher found us pen pals from Germany. At 19 mine came to the USA and stayed with me a week and came every summer for four years and we are still in touch thirty years later. Most I wrote to awhile and lost contact without meeting.

How neat to have history so close by. And I enjoyed the book too!

@pandorasecho How great it is that you are still in contact with your German friend.. The longest lasting pen pals that I am still corresponding with are two gals, sisters in laws, in Australia -- both for probably at least 35 years. I wrote (well, taped letters) to a blind gal in Ohio for probably 20 years. Several years ago we were going to be in Ohio. not far from where she and husband lived, so we planned to see her. About a week before we left home I got a note in the mail from her husband. She had passed away a few days earlier. However, when we were there we stopped and had a wonderful chat with her husband.

My pen pal habit has lingered in a long newsy Christmas letter and a few handwritten letters to my mom and some aunts. Nothing like snail mail to make me smile.

@aglennc oops forgot to tag you in my response above.
January 24th, 2015
@pandorasecho Again, me too. We send out photo Christmas cards each year and enclose a long newsy letter wit each + I write a personal note on each. It's a real ;production, but I enjoy doing it. I miss the handwritten letters to and from my mother. Most of my family is in Canada, and we email back and forth.....
