The Salvation Army putting on a show at Southport in the UK celebrating 150 years,
The Salvation Army movement began 150 years ago (1865). Locally, Salvation Army members have also reason to celebrate, as it is 132 years since the ‘Army’ began Christian ministry in Southport and, 100 years since the Corps began its Young People’s Band - which you can see still thrives today.
The Salvation Army is a well-known Christian denomination and international charitable organisation, with world-wide membership in 126 countries of over 1.5m, consisting of soldiers, officers and adherents known as ‘Salvationists.’ Its founders William and Catherine Booth sought to bring salvation to the poor, destitute and hungry by meeting both ‘physical and spiritual needs’, and now runs charity shops, operates shelters for the homeless, and provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid to developing countries.
Lovely shot, I have a lot of time for the Sally Army, they do some wonderful work out here in Oz. My Nanna was with the Sally's too . Mind you she was also in the church choir, the chapel choir and the Mothers Union too. She wasn't particularly religious, she just loved to sing and joined anything that had a choir. :)
