Preston Workers Memorial

Memorial to the 3 cotton mill workers shot dead by the army on 12th August 1842, on this spot in Lune street, they were members of the Chartist movement protesting at a 25% cut in wages by the mill owners, the army was sent it to break up the strike by the government
What an interesting memorial and such a sad tale. It is really good that future generations remember events like this.

A nice capture of some fascinating sculpture, Peter. I continue to be impressed with the quality of the photos captured by the A77V. Sorry to be out of commission for the last few days. Of course it was for a good reason, a four day motorcycle run. Pictures to be posted.

A very unusual memorial and a 25% cut in wages sounds horrendous - I guess the wages were not much to start with.
