Three people asleep on, or near in the case of the unseen man in the wheelchair, an uptown bench...and the reaction of two men passing by ~ what appeared to be indifference from one and scorn from another. I was going to use this last week for the 'Human Connection' theme, but, after consideration, it looked more like Human Disconnection.
We are a very judgmental lot aren't we & it's always for the grace of God....... that is terrible & I have never seen or heard of someone sleeping rough who needs a wheel chair!
@happypat Actually Pat, there is a shelter just a few blocks from this spot for anyone on the street needing overnight accomodations, meals, minor medical attention, showers, etc. However, for various reasons, some people prefer to sleep on the street. I suspect in some cases it's because no alcohol or drugs are permitted on shelter property. Addictions can be such a tough thing to overcome...and are the reason many are on the street to begin with.
What a sad sight. I agree so whole-heartedly with your comment about the role addictions have to play in these circumstances. I think society has to do a complete rethink on the whole question. This is becoming all-too-common. Great shot, though, Peggy, to illustrate the judgemental and uncaring attitudes we have about these poor people.
Peggy, I like this shot, because of the feeling it causes. I worked with the homeless on my job as a police officer and their plight is a sad one. Great capture my friend.
