An American Bike

For some reason US bikes don't seem to be as photogenic as Judith Greenwood's (@judithg) Cambridge, England bikes. Cambridge bikes seem more genteel and old-worldly, while Charlotte, NC bikes seem more in-your-face athletic. Perhaps the surroundings have something to with the general photogenicity as well...it's hard to compete with Cambridge. :)

Three good things:
1. Finally have word that construction is complete on the kitchen cabinets and the renovation can begin.
2. Have spent the day clearing everything out of the kitchen and tossing things as I go. It's amazing how much stuff can fit in a little kitchen.
3. I will be out of town when the demolition takes place and Tom will be left to oversee the process. :)
First there are no bikes as photogenic as Cambridge bikes or as many of them for that matter!! Most UK bikes will be like yours just run of the mill types although you have some rather special panniers there!
How exciting ..a new kitchen I will really look forward to seeing that! You do well to be out of the way ...Tom will be eating take away!

Bye the way love the hint of stars & stripes there it gives a real bit of colour!

Great composition and, like Pat, I like the flag colour at the top of the shot.

Cambridge bikes may be pretty cool but this is a great composition, Peggy. Love that bit of the red, white and blue and the window reflections. Good luck with kitchen. I'm in the very beginning stages of planning a new one.

@barbsmith A new kitchen for your lake house? I'm looking forward to seeing this project reach completion. Seems like we've been pulling this together forever.

@peggysirk Yes, we're doing pretty much a complete renovation up there although we haven't really started inside. First project was a garage/workshop aka "man cave". That is nearing completion. Then we are adding a new entrance/mud room, then the kitchen, wood floors and on and on. Being in a constant state of flux is not really my thing. Taking lots of deep breaths.

Smart move to be out of town.

Fav for the excellent framing/crop, the clarity & colors that give it the Apple-Pie America look + I love how you described the bike: in-your-face athletic. Are you a writer?

I had completely forgotten that you were remodeling your kitchen. How incredibly exciting. I hope you have taken a lot of before pictures so we can see the before and afters! I love this shot Peggy. Such a beautiful porch setting, and just to have the sunshine and ability to ride a bike (not on ice) right now would be amazing. Beautiful!

this shot has it all.

Hmm, never thought to compare bikes country by country. I guess we have a mixture of both. Really smart shot that suits the bike nicely. (You ought to tag @judithg . I'm sure she'd like to check this shot out. Oh, I just did...).

@girlie Thanks Robin! How did I manage to bypass this Peggy?! It's a rather splendid shot - what we don't do well is lovely porches to store your bikes in! @happypat is right - there are an awful lot of unattractive bikes with carrier bags over the saddle (the bane of my life!) which I just avoid - or I turn to sepia if it's just the bag that's upsetting me! I took a few photos of attractive bikes in NY - some have a sort of Harvard look but it's the sheer density in Cambridge and the ubiquitous wicker that gives me a head start. Can't wait to see your new kitchen - we have a couple of rooms that need a complete overhaul - I have to brace myself to start clearing out junk!

That is true, but vintage style bikes are making a comeback here! I have my new one I'm looking forward to riding once the weather cooperates, although I might not have the "cool" factor of the college co-eds I see on them since I'm looking more vintage myself!
