My goal for today was to take a photo using a tripod. Yes, I know this must seem ridiculous, but those buggers have always intimidated me! I decided to head to an out of the way spot this morning and get some practice with a sunrise shot. Happily, set up was quick and painless. I had plenty of time to wait and watch. I hoped for some color in the sky and was thrilled when it transformed from "ho hum" to "wow" in a matter of seconds.
Nice that you got detail in the shadows even with such a bright sky. I use a tripod less now that I have image stabilization and have more difficulty carrying heavy gear, but there are cases I can't do without it. Long lens wildlife photos and log exposures, for example.
@rvwalker Thank you, Ross. I recently took a photography class and the teacher said that in his opinion, image stabilization is the most important development in photography recently. Being so new to the hobby, I think I have taken this technology for granted.
@danitech I am glad I am not the only one! We will overcome together! By the way, did you have to use a tripod for your moon shot? I am still thinking about your amazing shot. I'm considering getting a zoom point and shoot now. Thank you for your comment!
@stu_b Thank you for the comment, Stu. You make a good point about the tripod. Slowing down and being more purposeful is another good reason to use one.
I must say I take nearly all my shots now with a tripod, I find it slows me down and makes me think more about each shot - also take fewer frames :-)
