100 Strangers : No. 41 : Zara and Chedell

I have been after an Ice Cream vendor for my strangers project for some time . Today I got two :) ... Zara and Chedell.

Today we went to the Nottingham Food and Drink Fair at Wollaton Park where Zara and Chedell were working in a beautiful retro Ice Cream Van.

I spotted the van soon after arriving at the fair and decided I would visit it later in the day to try and get an "Ice Cream Stranger"

I should have took the photo when I first spotted the van as later in the day Zara and Cheddell had more customers.

I approached Chedell and explained my project and Cheddel agreed straight away and encouraged Zara to come into the shot..

I took a few shots and then was interrupted by some customers.

After the customers left I showed Zara and Cheddell the images and they both liked them. I offered to email them but Cheddell said she would check out the Flickr 100 strangers group to see the final shot.

Some more customers arrived so I said my "thank you's" and went back to my wife who was in the music tent waiting for the next act to start.


I realised as I was listening to the music that I had not really got much of a story behind the strangers.

As we made our way out of the show I nipped over to the van and thanked the two young ladies for the photos. I asked them if they were students (I sort of assumed they were students doing summer jobs) but Cheddell told me this was there job and they worked for a Nottingham Ice Cream business,

They had been working in the van all day, We arrived at the show at 10.20 and they were still in the van at 15.45 when we left.

I kept the big Ice Cream image on the right hand side of the frame as this helps tell the story.

As for the Food and Drink Show, it was a little disappointing as we are used to visiting the BBC Food and Drink Show at the NEC, so kept comparing it to that. The love music tent was good though as we sat in the sun enjoying the music.

Did you get an ice-cream? Well done for the shot, always a bit tricky getting a photo when customers need attention. (I might look for an ice cream vendor myself!)

Beautiful capture of the duo. Did you buy an ice cream from them? My wife would have forced me to buy her one and that would have made me buy one for myself. She is crazy on ice cream.

@irisr thank you jacqui, the only stranger that I see regularly is John, my stranger number 12. He works on the car park where I park for the football. I printed a couple of shots of for him. His daughter has one of them because she liked them. I often have a chat about the football with him and he always gives me a good spot near the exit :)
