UP FOR ADOPTION by phil_howcroft

UP FOR ADOPTION

We used to have a black whippet and after 3 years without a dog we are thinking about having another rescue dog.

Today we visited an animal resuce centre to see if a dog would choose us (they choose you, not the other way round !!).

No dog wanted us, but I did take a rather sad picture.

This is an 11 year old greyhound desperate to be adopted and rescued. She looks so sad behind the bars of the kennel.

I apologise if the picture makes you sad, but it is what we did today and the 365 project is a photo a day !

No post processing , straight from the camera, every picture tells a story. You don't need my words to see how sad she looks

BTW : If anyone knows of any whippets (female and young) that need a nice sofa to lounge on, lots of nice walks and a nice rug in front of the fire then contact me via my profile information.
Aww, the poor girl! :( You captured her sadness well

We had a whippet once - a good dog! His very original name was Whip! Chosen by the kids!

Great shot but makes me want to cry. I love my babies and can't imagine them in a place like that.

I hear you, Sue! A friend of mine had a whippet in the '80s. Very smart and cute.

Aw, we went through months of visiting Dogs Trust - and it was always full of Staffys, which we didn't want.. keep looking and you will find the right dog for you.
Good solid sad dog pic.

@gill Gill, you are right it the eye's do tear at the heart strings. I kept thinking about her today ! I feel as though I've made everybody sad with this image. I will have to post some 'uplifting pictures' for the rest of the week. I'll have to put my thinking hat on for some uplifting themes ...my 2 euro hat !
March 7th, 2011
@gill Thanks Gill, I think it will be summer before my hat makes an appearance here , you will have to be patient !

Oh bless her! where is she? my mum is a sucker for OLD greyhounds (they don't chase as much - so the myth goes!!)!! she looks adorable!

Juliette, thanks, she's in the RSPCA animal shelter in Nottingham. I made a mistake she's 13 not 11 !!! (see below)

Lovely shot. At least she looks well cared for. Hopefully she will live her last years with someone special

Maybe she wanted to adopt you?

Awww lovely pic but very sad, we did a greyhound campaign at work a few months ago and it was so sad.. thats lovely that you're looking for a rescue dog though :)
March 14th, 2011
@cath Catherine, thanks for commenting, yes I hope she does live somewhere nice :)
March 14th, 2011
@ldpaul Linda, possibly she did, but we would not want to care for an older dog straight away. It's OK looking after your old dog when you've cared for her for quite a few years and watched her go old gracefully, but I don't think we could cope with the stress of an old dog from the 'off' !

@rachschofield Rach, yes it is a sad pic , but one of hope too
