The Nottingham Royal Centre had an 'open day' today, to celebrate it's 30th birthday.
The Nottingham Royal Centre is a 2,499 seater concert hall in the centre of the centre.
The 'open day' included a tour of the centre...the stage, the dressing rooms, the stage door, the 'rooftop lighting area' etc. It was an excellent tour.
I took my 450D and 50mm lens because I thought the light might be a bit dull.
I wanted to do a "Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be...." shot of me stood on stage with the 2499 seats in front of me !! However the group for our tour was 30+ strong, which made the solo shot too hard to get and the 50mm lens was not wide enough to get the shot !
So this is my shot. A young man was playing some Jazz on stage on a Steinway & Sons grand piano. I'm stood a few feet away and had to bump up the ISO settings to get the shot in the relatively low light.
The piano is valued at GBP 180,000 and the Royal Centre lease it on a 7 year rent.
I like the reflections of the pianists hands in the 'piano black' shiny front of the piano (I'm sure the shiny front has a technical word to describe it).
Converted to monochrome, to make it have more mood !
3 good things today:
1) the tour
2) bumped into my youngest daughter and her boyfriend and had some tapas for lunch with them
3) no football to get upset about today (it's the international break)
Just love this, a classic shot, beautifully done no idea of the technical term for your shiny front!! How lovely number 3 yippee!!! :)) I think this could be a fav.....just so love the b&w..yup it is!!!!
Would be such a thrill for my grandson Jack to play this piano, he would think he had died & gone to heaven! love the reflection & the hands just so...a fave!
Don't you love a gift from the cultural community? This sounds like a rare treat. The B&W really adds drama to the shot and I can practically feel the piantist's fingers flying across the keys. Great capture.
Loving your letterbox and really 'proper' blacks and whites. Are his hands blurred - think you should tag for the theme. Best those keys aren't sticky like ours are! Oh & fav!
@sparkle thanks juliette, it was a good tour ..........i got quite excited when they said the final bit of the tour was going onto the rooftop .....i thought wow great Nottingham skyline shots....but they said 'in the rooftop'...not 'on the rooftop'...they took us right into the 'gods' of the centre to see the lighting rigs :)
