This is Jane and Ruby, shot 'contre jour' on the beach at Anderby Creek in Lincolnshire.
I'm on 3 days holiday as it's 'half term' at school, so we decided to go for a day trip to the Lincolnshire Coast.
It's the first time we have took Ruby to the coast as she's not the best of traveller in the car, but decided it was about time she went and so we set off on our two hour drive !
We built a little den for her in the boot of the car. 5 door hatchback, so she had plenty of room to move about and she could look out of the back window to watch the world go by.
When we got to Anderby Creek she had been sick ! 5 minutes after our arrival she was racing along the beach, running into the sea, chasing seagulls and sniffing the rabbit droppings in the sand dunes ! She really enjoyed it !
We walked about 5.5 miles up and down the coast (I tracked it on Google Earth), we had a picnic. Ruby had some of her dry dog food, had a bit of our ham and blagged some of my "debbie and andrews sausage" and a bit of flap jack !!
She slept on the journey home and I'm happy to report she made the journey home without being sick ...despite me giving her a few tit bits !
Surreal moment ...Jane filled a flask with hot water and unbeknown to me brought a cafetiere and ground coffee with her .... so Phil and Jane were sat on a bench drinking cafetiere coffee with a whippet sat between us...We know how to enjoy the good life in the Howcroft household !!
Anyway, I hope you like the Contre Jour light in this shot :) ...this is a colour image, but shooting into the light makes for fabulous images and lovely dark tones !
I might share a few more pics over the next few days of the trip to the coast
Love the tale of the coast ride and the picture is beautiful with those gleams of light on the water! Our dog used to get sick in the car too. We learnt to stop every now and then and let him out.
Every thing but the kitchen sink came to mind.....sounds a very civilised thing to take with you to me!!!! We once had damson gin up on the fells above Garstang.
Love the light here & the beech looks fabulous...you can see where Ruby has had a run up to the water & around. Wind turbines too out to sea, I think the more you take Ruby in the car the better she will become used to the movement.
Sounds like a grand day out Phil ... Reminds me of trips with Oscar when he Waac younger travel sick etc ... He's ok now I just don't feed him before we travel anywhere which helped like you said in your report ...the journey home is fine because all the stress has left them (; Enjoy your time off work
LOVE the silhouettes Phil. Very nice. I love reading the "boot" of the car. It's "trunk" for me. I am sure being sick was worth it for Ruby when she got to the glorious beach of fun!
I'd never heard the term "contre jour" but it makes a wonderful image. Love the wide expanse of sea, sky and sand, and the silhouettes of Jane and Ruby to give the picture scale. A great picture for your holiday.
Oh I'm so glad Ruby enjoyed it and the travel sickness was worthwhile - bless her. We are very lucky that Monty is an instant sleeper in the car. And Ruby was tired out enough not to fret on the way home! Lovely shot too.
So jealous of the seaside walk...and a fun way to tire out Ruby too.
Last time we tried I think Tetley and Tinker eventually got the hang of not drinking the sea water!
@caddick thanks mike, i don't know if ruby sampled the water , rather strange really ...after about 2 hours on the beach she all of a sudden had an urge to run into the sea ...don't know what she saw though !!!
